David Sain
I am a licensed architect and an adjunct instructor at the University of Kansas. I retired from working with Dan Rockhill in the design/build firm of Rockhill and Associates after nearly 40 years. I came to Lawrence to get some building experience with the expectation of leaving the Midwest and returning to a traditional architectural office. My wife and I are still in Lawrence. At KU, my classes focus on materials and tectonics in the School of Architecture and Design. Both my design studios and lecture classes are about how things are built and how materials are best used.
Over the years, I have found that what I most like about construction is working in the shop on unique custom assemblies. SAIN WORKS is my venue for exploring this kind of work on my own.

The Boathouse
I am a member of Friends of the Kaw (FOK) and volunteer regularly as Kaw River Guide. I am working in the FOK boathouse. I help maintain the building and in return use some space for a shop. The people of FOK and the Kansas River have become integral to my life and they shape the way I see the world and the type of work I want to do.
